How to deal with aggressive people on the street???

  • I do not slow down, but still smile and say a firm "no" if need be. If they're aggressive I don't bother with the smile bit! I understand from my OH that I am also well on my way to turning into my mother as she has a great line in "looks" that can stop people in their tracks and apparently I now have similar!

My OH on the other hand drives me round the bend. he must ooze an aura of "mug" as they always go for him and not for me and he will slow down and engage with every single one. Every time we are in a large city I cannot leave him alone for more than 30 seconds or someone looking for funds for one thing or another will have collared him. 2 minutes outside a McDonalds the last time we were in London and he had parted with a fiver (!!!!) for some book about the Hare Krishna movement. The number of times I have been striding on gaily not knowing I am talking to myself and I turn around and he is halfway down the street trying to edge away from someone looking for cash, and I hadn't given them the time of day :rotfl:

I tell people who approach me I don't donate to anything that requires me giving my bank details. That seems to cover most of them.

I just keep walking and say "no thanks, I'm in a hurry."

I hate the doorstep ones who come round and claim that all my neighbours have signed up, when I know they probably haven't.
Here I go again on my own....

Crazy innit? Hell would freeze over before I would give my bank details to some perfect stranger in the street.

I just say "I always knew they were a stupid bunch of w***k**s", then say goodbye and close the door.

Of course, my neighbours are not a bunch of....

The number one rule for chuggers is never, ever stop walking. The second you stop walking they've got you

Always maintain a steady walk and politely decline. I also cross the road before I get to them sometimes depending how I feel

With beggars I either don't make eye contact and totally ignore them or just say No if they ask for spare change

In the street or outside shops I keep walking saying 'no thank you'.

Those who call at the house hear two dogs barking loudly and by the time I open the door they have taken at least three steps back and can't wait to get away as soos as I say 'no thank you'.

  • I can't abide chuggers. I read recently that by the time the chugger has been paid their commission, and the agency that employs them gets theirs, it is somewhere between 14-24 months before the charity sees a penny.

So when they say, "Do you care about....?" It is nonsense. I usually just say NO to chuggers in the street. Chuggers that ignore the sign on my door and knock anyway, especially when they say, "I am not a cold caller" are fair game. I express exactly how i feel about their life choices in no uncertain terms.

I used to donate to the RSPCA but don't even do that now after chuggers called. If you check out the charities commission website you see how much money the charities have and how much they spend on fundraising.
