British Gas

I was supplied by British Gas until the end of July this year. I changed my supplier because BG are far too expensive. I always pay quarterly.
Anyways, I received a final bill from BG in August, whereby they stated that I owed them £114.43. On checking this bill, I noticed that (and bare with me trying to make this make sense);
- On my second last bill from May, BG charged me £415.37 which I paid.
- Thereafter, 28th July, BG decided to whack on an additional £80.32 to that bill once I told them I was leaving.
- My final bill came through in August stating I owed them £114.43 (£34.11 for energy used prior to leaving and £80.32 from additional money).
- I've paid the £34.11 as thats what I used.
Now I have always provided my meter readings prior to my bills being generated and British Gas are refusing to let it go, stating that they used estimated readings at the time and that it was my fault for not prividing meter reading, which I did provide right away.
My question is, with me providing the right details when asked to do so, can British Gas change a bill 2 months later down the line? I have raised a complaint with them, but they are not interested, they continue to phone me 3 times a day demanding this money and I am now receiving threatening emails from a debt collectors demanding this be paid.
I have also noticed that the last 3 bills have not been for my address. It is my name in the bill, but not my home address, yet a previous address which I stayed. (They supplied that home to at the time) This might be me purely chancing my luck, but can I use this to my advantage?
Pleas dont ask me what my meter readings were at the time, because ai didnt keep them, which ai wished I did now.

Your bills will have contained the information which you need - if you don't have them, ask BG to supply you with copies (they might charge you money for doing so).mad mocs - the pavement worrier0

You'll have to provide a bit more information than that if you want useful comments...
How was the "additional money" described on the bill?
Do the previous bills indicate that estimated readings were used?
Presumably you still get mail that has been sent to the old address. Have BG always used that address for bills pertaining to the place in question?
I find it hard to believe they are phoning you 3 times a day demanding money when they have already sold the debt on to debt collectors...I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the In My Home MoneySaving, Energy and Techie Stuff boards.
