My DD is in exactly the same position! She was really looking forward to being independant and going off to uni, but was quite devastated to only being accepted by a London uni - it was her last choice on the UCAS form. Unfortunately, her course is very difficult to get on to and there is no guarantee she would get a place anywhere next year.
I've taken her up to London 3 times in the last few weeks (thanks to Supersaver coach fares and cheap Travelodge rooms!) to familiarise her with her new "area". She feels quite confident jumping on and off buses and the Tube with her Oyster card, and we've checked out the local shops etc. Her main concern is that she is so central (literally in the City) that there are no proper supermarkets, just things like Sainsburys and M&S city shops.
She had opted for a female-only accomodation in Halls, and recently phoned up and expressed a preference for a particular building that had self-contained flatlets rather than open floors (security issues). She had only realised the difference between Halls after peering through the windows and chatting to the accomodation office.
She is now about 70% excited about going, 20% sad at leaving home and only 10% terrified at the prospect of living in London."Cheap", "Fast", "Right" -- pick two.0 -
I love living in London - yes it is the most expensive city in the world but there is so much to do. You are never stuck for things to do!0

I'd say that she should def go for it- London is definitely an experience & to be there as a student there is soo much to do!
Why is she considering re-taking her A2 if she has won a place on a course? It's probably best to get on & start the course in London, unless re-taking would mean that she gets to do a different course with higher grade requirements?0 -
Two hours is not that far. I'm sure it she will be fine once she gets there! If not she can always come home and retake her A2's if she really wants to or or reapply to unis again.
Just think - there is going to be SO much to do in London, with a lot of them being free which will be good for a student!Student MoneySaving Club member 017!0
