Electric shower repair

Dear All,
We have an electric shower that, for no particular reason, has ceased to provide us with hot water. We get just bearable warm water. I suspect we may have to call someone in to fix it, but just in case it is a ridiculous little plastic thing that will cost us a pound to buy in B&Q, is anybody able to perhaps shed some light on this and perhaps save us a bit?
