    OP - you will be ok. Dont fret too much over the scaremongering here. 16 hours is fine if you have a child - its not against the law to want to work part time !

    Just keep decent records. Ensure your work is on a commercial basis and organised like a proper trade. Advertise your services, keep a client log, and keep receipts for expenses and of course log the income in and the hours worked each day. A diary kept then popped into a simple excel spread sheet will work fine. " If " you are asked to provide evidence - its all there. Make sure you are registered SE and for self assessment. End the end of the year complete your simple accounts ( I recommend in May which is after the April rush ) This gives you plenty of time to fill in the child tax renewal. If you need any more tax tips - " cutting tax " peeps will be able to assist.

    Cleaning is a straightforward business as its a defined hourly service - clearly for profit. Good luck - hope it works out well.
