I have taken up my stair carpet.
And its left some underlay behind.
Is it just a case of scraping it off dry?
Thanks in advance.

Is it glued down? When we removed our stairs carpet the underlay was just stapled.0

It's unusual for underlay to be glued down, it's normally just stapled. But if yours is glued then I'd peel off most of it then scrape off the residue with a paint scraper. If it's difficult to get up then a heat gun may help soften the glue. If you do try this then please be very careful - proper heat guns can kick out a heck of a punch, and it's not difficult to scorch the wood underneath - or worse.0

Sorry Its the backing from the carpet as there seems to be no underlay.
It was thick foamed back carpet and its been down well no idea how long as I have been 10 and half year. So its ancient.

Sounds like a cheap foam rubber backed carpet, which does eventually disintegrate. Just scape it off with something like a wallpaper striping blade. No free lunch, and no free laptop0
