You are only covered under the Consumer Credit Act for transactions with a value of £100 or more.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

I placed an order yesterday (about the time this thread started actually!). Have received a dispatch notice email today, so everything looks ok...though perhaps I've just been lucky.

They are in Administration. That's not the same as ceasing trading/going bankrupt.

    They aren't insolvent.

The company is being run by a firm of Accountants rahter than the company's own management.

On strictly legal terms this is true. In practice, I don't know of any credit card company that would not refund you a payment if you hadn't received the goods (as long as you weren't doing it 5 or 6 times in a row, that is).

Yes, they are being run by accountants for the time being - but Fopp lasted all of a week in that position before they shut up shop for good, with all outstanding internet orders going unfulfilled. I'm happy to be covering my own behind in these circumstances.

And I don't see who exactly is going to dip into their pockets to bail Choices out and keep them going, when the CD & DVD retailing market is in such dire straits.

Have to say I suspected they were in soapy bubble when the offers were so good. Couldn't just idly speculate about it on no evidence as it's unfair to legit sales.

I did wonder about this. Our local Choices has been sliding downhill for several months-emptyish shelves/older titles etc. Blockbusters on the other hand (a further 10 mins drive away) is bulging at the seams with titles and people. The Choices was in a prime location as well-opposite the pub and next door to a Pizza Hut an several takeaway shiops.
  • I used to work for them so could see this coming months ago - so decided to leave thankfully! Looks like that was a good move now!
  • Good move fella...i just fell for the people who were/are still working for them when they went into administration...
  • I've been told by the shop assistant that our local choices is closing down, I hadnt been in there in so long as its just so expensive, £3.95 for 2 nights, then later changed to 3 nights. 2 rentals and you could buy the same dvd a lot of the time.
She was not happy and gave us some free chocolate and told us to rent something and not bother to bring it back and not worry about any outstanding overdue fees! (Im not suggesting I would do that)
Reclaiming for family and friends. Won 4/13 so far
