I can only speak from my own experience, but when I called my bank they confirmed that the payment was going through on their system and I have not had any email to say that my order has been despatched. This would suggest to me that it is not the case that no payments are processed until the item is sent.

Everyone is free to take whatever risks they want, but I don't think it's unreasonable to take all possible precautions when something like this happens. If you've got enough money to spare, then the 'wait and see' approach is fine - but it you want to protect yourself, then I'd say the only option is, as I suggested, to cancel your payment asap.

Fair enough - they don't normally do that! I was just hoping that the online side of their business may be bought and may continue, which I woud've thought is unlikely if everyone cancels all their orders.

If they go under it's unliekly they'll pay cashback. If they're bought by someone else I wouldn't have thought it would get paid either. Shame really as I've got over £4 tracking with them at the moment. Oh well.

I got the 3 items I ordered off them fine the other week - all bargains to be fair!

Don't think I'll get my Quidco though now sadly...

I've got a mate who owns a website called gamealot.co.uk and he called this months ago... he's normally fairly wrong about everything but obviously not on this occasion.

Which leads me to wonder why they'd take payments off people without honouring an order if its been in the pipeline for so long.

I don't think anyone has mentioned yet that they have been charged for a order that hasn't been honoured.

They can't just shut up shop when they think they might be running into difficulty, they have to keep on trading while searching for a buyer as the chance of finding a buyer for an non trading business with debts to suppliers is zero.

I just called 'em - They said, they're going into 'Administration' - But but not closing just yet.

    All orders will be honoured.

I had an email through this morning saying my products were dispatched today so it would seem they are honouring current orders.

I ordered a game on the 22nd july, which hasnt arrived.

I sent three emails asking where it was and got a reply the next day to them all (supply problem). I saw the news yesterday and cancelled my order and to be fair to them they had NOT charged my credit card and I have had confirmation of the cancellation
  • I've got some DVDs on 30 day rental from Choices at the moment. What's the chances of me being able to keep them?

I have had DVDs from them in the past and they have debit my account after the goods have been despatched. I haven't got an order with them at the moment but if I had I wouldn't cancel it. As said before the only problem could be if an item is damaged or gets lost in the post.

I don't know 100% how card transactions work but my understanding is that the transaction is authorised, then pending and finally debited. So the transaction is authorised and would be pending until the goods are despatch. I hope that this is fairly accurate and I have not opened a can of worms.

I think it is a good thing that the OP brought it up though, it gives people a choice (excuse pun). Some companies debit your card as soon as you place an order so you can never be too careful.
