The Insurance company did no work, the member of Swinton's staff you spoke to would have amended it on their computer which then uploads it automatically to the Insurers computer and in turn updates the Insurer's files0 -
Went with Swinton and they just stung me for £25 to change the number plate.
Had same issue, added a named driver and rep told me of the £25 admin charge. I asked him if they could waive the charge, he asked his manager - answer was yes!
If you don't ask you don't get.......0 -

I had to pay to update my numberplate on my insurance policy with Aviva.
I didn't have to pay to update my numberplate on my insurance policy with Admiral.
It's a small amount in the grand scheme of things.
Hi dannyrst,
When you come to Aviva directly, we don't charge to change your number plate over to a cherished plate. Unfortunately we can't speak for the various brokers we underwrite, as their policy terms and pricing are not controlled by us.
If you'd like me to check over your details and make sure things have been administrated correctly, please feel free to send me an email to social@aviva.co.uk with your:
- Full name
- Date of birth
- Postcode
- Policy number
- MSE username (so I can link your email to this post)
Once we've received these details, we'll be happy to double check this.
Thanks
Nicki

The thing is, everyone wants the cheapest possible policy so companies are taking the Ryanair model with very low headline prices but you pay for everything, including changes, as an extra.
If you want free policy amendments you need to pay a bit more upfront. What goes around - comes around0 -
beat this one if you can!!
my car insurance was thru lloyds bank who insured it thru zenith. was putting my personal plate on retention due to new car ordered so had to change my existing policy to show the car's original '11' plate number.
was told they can't do any mid term policy changes at all (number plates, addresses etc), could only cancel that policy and take out a new one with the new reg number (same car, address etc) but it would be £230 dearer!!!!
then when new car arrived with personal reg number would have to conduct the whole procedure again!!!
fortunately got hold of a manager who agreed that was madness. he agreed to cancel my policy on the date my new car was being collected and agreed to start the new one with a different underwriter on the day of new car collection.
without his intervention this was becoming a nightmare.0
