I am one of those people who will annoy Martin in the fact I have not kept great records of the different accounts, loans etc I have had in the past.
Is there any recommendation of best PPI collector? Best customer service, best commission etc?
Interested to hear some thoughts.

CMCs have no greater success than yourself. Indeed, it is hinted at that you are less likely to be successful by using a CMC than by yourself as some CMCs use templates which can harm your complaint rather than make it more likely (by including reasons that are easily refuted with evidence losing you credibility in cases which require a balance of probability decision).
You are asking who the shiniest turd is.
You need to tell them who you had the PPI with. That data is not in the public domain. They ask you the questions you would need to give on the form if you were doing it yourself. All they really do is send the form in to the complaints address for that firm. A very expensive stamp if your complaint is successful.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). If you prefer, you can fill in the form and give it to me rather than a claims company. You need to tell them who you had the PPI with. That data is not in the public domain. I will then charge you £250 to put a stamp on it and pop it in the post box. You need not pay me for my time whilst I take a leisurely stroll down to the post box as I will take the opportunity to visit the turkey farm and see how my Christmas lunch is doing.0 -

What do you think has been done wrong when and by who?
There is no such thing as a "PPI collector". PPI is not some magical insurance that you can have a refund for just because you ask and if you go in expecting to just sign an authority and wait for people to throw money at you then you are likely to end up disappointed.
All a CMC would do is put in a complaint on your behalf. However, you would still need to give them the complaint reasons and sign the paperwork. If you consider yourself to have genuine grounds for complaint, may as well just write directly, it will take half an hour and save you 30-40% of any redress you may be offered.0 -

Nothing of the sort - I am simply charging to put a stamp on a letter and put it into a postbox.
If you prefer, I will charge the same to post your Granny's birthday card.0 -
Thanks for the comments so far. My problem is that I do not have a record of all the companies that I have had accounts with. I did get a call from a PPI collector who did the usual sell, but they did go and find some accounts and advised that they could make a claim on my behalf with a fee involved. Told them to 'go away'. But it made me think there are accounts, that are now closed, that I could claim against but I do not have the information. Wanted to know if there were any companies who don't charge in advance, do have good customer service etc that are worth investigating.
If I have the information myself, I would of course go do this but I don't. Was hoping for someone to be able to get this information. Otherwise, some advice on how I can do this. Would it really be ring up every possible bank I may have had an account with or HP when I have bought a car to see if I may or may not have had an account.
Any ideas where I might be able to find this information by myself if I don't have my own record?0 -

A CMC wont have access to that data either beyond your 6 year credit record and a check of your land registry entry. Both of which are available to youI am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). At the moment you're approaching this with the wrong mindset (obviously abetted by the CMC in question). You would not be "claiming against" something, you would be making a complaint and accusing someone of wrongdoing. A complaint is not justified just because you had a PPI policy. There needs to be some believed wrongdoing. Hence my question earlier, what do you believe has been done wrong, when and by who? What information do you actually required? If I have the information myself, I would of course go do this but I don't. Was hoping for someone to be able to get this information. Otherwise, some advice on how I can do this. If you just want to know whether you had PPI then yes, you should be able to find out by doing this. However, bear in mind my earlier comment that this by itself does not entitle you to money. There would have to be grounds for complaint and a misselling complaint relates to what happened at the point of sale. Hence why it might be a bit difficult to make one if you're not even sure whether you had it, let alone how it was sold.Any ideas where I might be able to find this information by myself if I don't have my own record?
