What happens to a TC joint claim when a couple splits?

Hi,
Let's say I have a Tax Credits joint claim and a Housing Benefit joint claim with my partner.
If one of us moves out, shall both of us have to make a fresh individual claim or only the one who moves out? Is the answer the same for TC and HB? And does the fact that the one moving out already had an active joint claim before and is now making a new one will somehow accelerate the creation and activation of the new claim? Otherwise, how much time is expected to pass between the application and the first payment?
