New flat roof - EPDM or fibreglass?

I've got a small flat roof, approximately 4m x 2m, on my kitchen/bathroom extension which is two storeys high, which needs replacing. It's been there since before I bought it in 1997.

Which would you prefer and why? And what kind of price would you estimate, assuming there will be scaffolding costs?

Fibreglass without doubt is the best, costs more but will last longer and wont have the problems like epdm. I find epdm in areas that dont get much sun can suffer from green mould which is easily treated but needs doing regularly. I have both types of roofing.

    Just to balance previous poster...
I'd go for epdm, the fibreglass roof I've just cleaned that's no more than 3 years old was absolutely covered in green and is no longer flat, as in it's now all lumps and bumps, and yes it was originally flat!

Either would be fine. I have a fibre glass roof on a building 8.5m x 4.5m and my neighbour has an EPDM roof on his 4m x 2m work shop.

I have had no issues with the fibre glass and am very pleased with it. My neighbour also has no issues with his EPDM roof and it looks nice also.

Cost wise the EPDM will be cheaper. Installing either is the key to success or failure

  • Thanks guys. I'm leaning towards EPDM. These guys are local, in my town, traded for 10 years and look good from the website. They only do EPDM, so they should know their stuff. http://www.raindefenceroofing.co.uk/
