car write off/only damaged doors

could anyone please give some advice? l was in my friends car and someone crashed into the side, scrapping the two leftside doors. the other drivers fault, he gave his insurance details. my friend has taken the car to garage an the insurane want to write it off , it only has a big scrape and doors slightly dented and is 7 years old. my question is this , if they write it off who gets the car ? l remember my father keeping his car after a write off(for spare parts because like this case there was nothing mechanically wrong with it ). and buying the same car . thank you for any advice

That's not totally true. It depends on the category of write off. If the car's a cat d write off, it does not need to be checked by VOSA. It doesn't even need to go through another MOT, as the current MOT remains valid. As a third party claim, the car will remain your friend's property.
