Natwest Advantage Gold - Can we claim?

Hello

My husband arrived in UK in 2002 from Australia, he walked into the first bank he saw and told them he needed an account to be paid his salary into. They gave him an advantage gold account, they told him there were no other options and he took it as he accepted this was standard.

My husband never knew there was even added extras like insurance, he was young and naive. When we moved in together in 2005 we needed a joint account and same thing happened. We struggled alot financially and frequently were put into serious debt because money was tight. We had no idea that this was not their standard account.

In 2009 we finally saved up enough money to pay them off and close our accounts, we owed them over £1000 in overdraft charges. It was one of the happiest days of our lives.

Are we able to claim back these charges for these package accounts? Not the overdraft charges... The actural package account charges paid to have the account?

Thanks

yes of course you can, get the ball rolling by contacting natwest.

    https://www.natwest.com/global/contact-us/complain-js.ashx

Fill in the online form, think why you are think you was missold the packaged account, i.e was told it was only account available for your needs , was told you needed it for an overdraft, was told that you needed it for a loan, just give as much detail as possible and be honest. They will look at your complaint and either find in your favour, or decline, if they decline you can still go to the ombudsman.

My claim was declined, i went to the ombudsman, and then my claim was upheld, so ended up getting a payout.

    Good Luck!
  • I am in the process of claiming against my advantage gold account. They refused my claim due to being over 6 years since the event and 3 years since I became aware I could claim. Well I have e-mailed them today stating I had only recently become aware I could have a claim and therefore asked them to re look at my account. If they come back again I will forward to the ombudsman. They have recently changed my account again without my knowledge! I want to change my account to santandare but want to get it sorted now befor I move or should I move now? We have a mortgage with Natwest and I also have a loan will it compromise any of these because I am claiming?

The complaint timebars are set by the regulator but there has to be a defined date and event to activate the timebar.

So, when they rejected your complaint as being timebarred, what reason did they give for the timebar. i.e. what was it that started the timebar clock? a letter about the benefits perhaps?
Well I have e-mailed them today stating I had only recently become aware I could have a claim and therefore asked them to re look at my account.

Not knowing you could complain is not a valid reason. People can and do complain about anything and everything. The key thing is knowing what you have and whether it was suitable.
If they come back again I will forward to the ombudsman.

Sometimes the ombudsman overrules timebars if they have not been applied correctly. However, to put yourself in a position of knowledge, you need to find out what it is that activated the timebar.

Your complaint has no impact on your other products.
