TV / DVD channel synchronisation

Options
 Please can some helpful fool give me any advise on synchronising the channels on the TV [model LG 32LCDB2] with the DVD Player/Recorder [Model Philips DVDR3380]...

I've read the TV and DVD manuals cover to cover and tried upteen different combinations of cable configuration but to no avail...

The TV has built in Freeview so I anticipate that the DVD gets fed the channel information via the TV - which means the external aerial goes in to the TV and the DVD then feeds off the TV via either Scart cable and(?)/or the TV aerial cable...?

What in fact happens whatever the cable/infrastucture configuration is, the DVD only finds 12 or so channels [the majority of which are fuzzy and unwatchable!

Any [constructive] thoughts / ideas would be most welcome!

TIA

Just check your TV manual to see if your TV has a TV/Ariel out. It might be fed by a scart cable but this would have to be an OUTGOING scart cable that would plug into the Ingoing of the DVD player and then another scart socket from the DVD player back into the TV.

I may be wrong on this one, but it seems to me that your Phillips DVD Recorder only has an analogue tuner, not a digital ( Freeview ) one, hence the 12 or so unwatchable channels.

I don't think your LG TV can send it's digital output to the DVD Recorder.

It is very difficult to give a 100% answer withgout having the manuals for the TV and the DVD Recorder.

You may be better off asking this question over at digitalspy forum.

Sorry that I am unable to give you an absolute answer on this one.

As per previous post it looks like the DVD recorder only has an analog tuner.
Normally your aerial lead would go Aerial>>DVD recorder>>TV.
Then Scart from DVD to TV.
You should be able to record analog channels onto DVD via its internal tuner.
If you want to record a freeview channel off the TV then you need to select the AV input for the DVD which would then get the programme from the TV, but you can only record what you are watching.
That gum you like is coming back in style.
  • i got something simlar with my LG TV and sound system. its knocks it self out of sync :(

Sorry - it's a LG 32LC2DB - I got the 2 in the wrong place. Still, I guess that just demonstrates what you're dealing with here!

Regarding the 'only has an analog tuner' bit, what would you suggest / recommend? Is there a / or a few DVD Player/Recorders that you could recommend?

Ultimately I am hoping to record whatever digital / freeview channel I want...

Your needs would probably be better served by a PVR, which records on to a built in Hard Drive, not a DVD.

Something like this would allow you to watch Freeview on your TV and still record 2 different Freeview channels at the same time.
