Benefit rates rise Sep query

I received a letter a while ago saying that the rate for income support would go up in september 2007 to i think around £90 odd a week. However I have just attended my medical (first) for my incapacity benefit claim. Does anyone know if the IB rate is going to rise as well? Otherwise I would be way better off on Income Support.

I am specifically asking about FUTURE rate rises (i.e. September) NOT the ones listed here http://www.dsdni.gov.uk/benefit_rates which came into effect months ago.

Thanks

You need to contact your JCP Benefit Centre (where the letter came from), and ask. No one on this forum can know your circumstances nor would be able to answer your question.
Your link is for benefits rates in Northern Ireland. This is the correct link for benefit rates on the mainland-

Benefit rises from the DWP occur in April each year.

If you've been told your benefit will rise in September, then this is either when you will change from short term to long term rate or that you are entitled to an age addition.

You have no choice about whether to claim income support versus incapacity benefit. If you have paid enough national insurance contributions to qualify for incapacity benefit then this is the benefit you will get. If not enough NI contributions paid then you get income support.
The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.

I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.

As far as I am aware Income Support does not have short/long term rates and there will be no age change as I am 27.

I have however found the letter and it says I will receive £84.40 IN INCOME SUPPORT from 19th October 2007 as there is a change in the amount the law says you need to live on (obviously the law comes into effect on that date)

Does anyone know where I can find out any more info on this law at all? Also I think this should affect everyone else who is getting anything below this amount.

I have letters from them from time to time and many of them just state that there is no change but when there has been a change e.g. it can be because of a change in mortgage interest payments or similar.

It is probably some change in your circumstance and is nothing to do with anyone else or law change. The wording 'there is a change in the amount the law says you need to live on' is always used in the letters when they send them out. Hope this helps you figure it out.

I have just thought of something, are you receiving DLA? If you are entitled to disability premium you will get more - I ask this because I had a similar letter earlier this year and could not figure it out and then discovered I was to receive a disability premium which I wasn't aware of.
