Weebly question

I have had a website with weebly for two years and it is now up for renewal.
I went to renew for another two years and had to select my country and postcode. As soon as I selected UK they slapped on VAT. I didn't pay VAT for my website two years ago so was wondering if there is any way around this?
Seeing as they don't even have an office in Europe and I am paying in dollars I'm not sure they should be charging VAT? (I'm a very small business so not at all clued up on VAT!)
Any help is appreciated

You need to check whether they are actually registered for VAT themselves.
If they are not, then they are not legally allowed to charge VAT and can be fined up to £50,000 per offence if HMRC find out.Never Knowingly Understood.

This thread is about Godaddy but on the same theme

It seems that electronic services supplied from outside the EU are subject to UK VAT.
You should be invoiced in Pounds and they should supply a valid VAT number.0 -
I also have a website built with Weebly, but I haven't faced such a problem. I can recommend to check an article on http://www.webbuildersguide.com/website-builders-reviews/weebly-review/. This review helped me to find out main things about this website builder. I hope it will be useful for you too!0
