Yes, but a 12 year old car with only 30,000 miles is likely to be a shed. I certainly wouldn't be piling £1000 into it.

With only 30,000 miles, it sounds a real gem of a car. I have older and much higher mileage cars but don't consider them 'sheds' by any means and well worth the cost of basic maintenance including cambelt changes when required.

Every person I've ever known who has bought one of these low mileage 'gems' has ended up with a money pit.

The very fact that this one is in need of £700 worth of servicing and MOT repairs, not including the cambelt, tells you all you need to know.

i think you are being a bit harsh, disks and pads, as well as a cam belt and water pump, along with a normal service and MOT are what i would class as general maintenance and wear and tear items, nothing there screams shed
    Drop a brand challenge
on a £100 shop you might on average get 70 items save
    10p per product = £7 a week ~ £28 a month
    20p per product = £14 a week ~ £56 a month
30p per product = £21 a week ~ £84 a month (or in other words one weeks shoping at the new price)
  • if i was pricing it up i would do it like this

3.5 hrs to do cambelt & water pump
    £350 inc vat

a full service you would be looking at
£195.00 inc vat this would full inspection checking cleaning brakes fluids & stuff replace oil, air, fuel, pollen filters & spark plugs

our hourly rate is £47.50 + vat p/h & we are rammed out all the time in east sussex area

You definitely can't generalise. We dropped on an 03 plate Seat Arosa in 2013 with 17000 genuine miles on the clock. Found it on Ebay after looking for ages. Granted our son is a VAG-trained independent so we checked it over in detail, but it really was a gem and is now fully run in at 35000 miles. It has only cost us routine servicing (plus 4 tyres) in the 2 years we've owned it.
