For my cousin's wedding last year we bridesmaids wore black!
As long as you're not wearing the same colour as the bride, not the same colour as an Oompa Loompa and not showing your knickers or bra you'll be fine. Oh, and make sure you can walk in your heels and check whether the venue requires you to wear heel stoppers on your shoes to avoid damaging their floor/lawn.
My big fat gypsy wedding is a good 'how NOT to dress' guide.“I want to be a glow worm, A glow worm's never glum'Coz how can you be grumpy, when the sun shines out your bum?" ~ Dr A. JackieO I think a trouser suit is a fab idea. I was at a wedding in the summer and there was one guest in a trouser suit and she got so many compliments. She wore it with heels and a lovely scarf and jewellery and looked amazing.
Practical too as you can wear thermals underneath and dress it down for everyday wear.
I'm sure you will have a great day at your friend's long overdue wedding!Father Ted: Now concentrate this time, Dougal. These
(he points to some plastic cows on the table) are very small; those (pointing at some cows out of the window) are far away...:D:D

As others have said...
Black is no problem!
White, however, would be due to possibility of being mistaken for the bride. That's the only colour I don't want people to attend my wedding in. Any other colour I don't mind, even if it's the same colour as my bridesmaids.0
