£250k to invest, T&C's confusing ; please help

Basically we wish to invest £250k in a Bank or BS. We need complete safety as we're a pair of wrinklies. I've read all the best Bank/BS to investment with etc, on the MSE site. But I'm very confused. Some you're meant to save so much a month to get the higher interest, some you can't get at the money quickly etc etc.. Please give me some simple advice. We currently have an E- savings account paying 5.8% with Nationwide. We also have a flexi account with them. It's very easy to transfer money, via web, from the e-account to flexi and then walk in and collect cash or make out a cheque etc from the flexi. Is there any other Bank or BS offering a similar service but paying a higher interest? Your help and advice appreciated

Investing is the wrong term. You mean saving.

Im not sure why your age should affect your ability to invest. Its not as if putting all your money in cash deposits is the safest option. Especially if you are living off the interest.

You are unlikely to find another account that offers the flexibility you have and a better rate. There are better rates if you dont mind losing the flexibility or adding delays in clearing cycle.

All of the following pay 6% plus, much better than you current Nationwide account.

Put 3k in a cash ISA with National Savings, (Direct ISA). Put the remainder into a Sainsbury's Bank Account (Internet Saver), an ICICI Bank account, or an Icesave Bank account. All are instant access, without penalty.

  • You could do the above while leaving a couple of K in your Nationwide e-Savings for easy access and transfer from the other accounts to Nationwide when required.
