Messages from 02 on my Orange Phone

I have a very basic Orange Pay as you go Mobile phone.
Tonight I have received 8 text messages saying Welcome to 02 and giving a different Wi-Fi code on each one.
Please can anyone solve this mystery?

Some idiot doesn't know their own mobile number, and when they didn't receive the confirmation message on their own phone tried again. And again. And again.

After 8 goes they either gave up or finally worked out what their own number is.

IMO cookie365 has given the correct answer. When you register with O2 for free WiFi they send a text which contains a code to confirm your are using the number you gave. The codes are one-time and completely worthless.
  • Yes, as cookie said. It's where someone has used your number to try and sign up to O2's WiFi service, prompting a text message verification code to be entered, which of course they weren't receiving so they kept trying to resend the text.

Enfield, I don't think "sell it on ebay" is the best solution for most tech issues.
