I wouldn't want a huge place - all those extra rooms to dust? No thanks!
I wouldn't mind one more room than we have, just to be able to have "my own space" - we have a very tiny bungalow, officially 2 bedroom, but the 2nd bedroom's miniscule, and is given over to storage.
I do buy gadgets, but only ones that are of genuine use to make life easier for me - the bath-lift is an example. If your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)0 -
When we bought our house 12ish years ago I really wanted a bigger garden, but in reality the one we have is plenty big enough to cope with.
A third bedroom would be nice, then I could have a craft room/art studio, but then I think to myself that my daughter is 9, and will potentially be freeing up the 2nd bedroom in 10-15 years, which will coincide with me being mortgage free.
A third bedroom would require a bigger mortgage, that wouldn't be paid off till after the extra bedroom would be no longer worth it, so every time I think of moving, and think it through and decide I am happy.
If I won the lottery I would buy a bigger house, with a craft room, but I wouldn't want stupidly big. 4 bedrooms max. Would go for detached though.
I like the idea of building alms houses, or something similarZebras rock0 -

Yes unpaid help would never be as thorough as you are yourself.Great opportunities to help others seldom come, but small ones surround us every day. -- Sally Koch0

I've no interest in a big house, and all those stupid gadgets and gizmos like heated bog seats and remote controlled curtains just make me laugh. They're toys for people with more money than sense.
Estate agents have a word for it, called the 'gold tap effect'. It can actually lower the value of a property if it has loads of gizmos and tat, because it costs more to maintain.
I wouldn't mind living in Highgate though! I lived there for many years in a small flat but finally had to move out as the rents just became unbelievable. The cost of property is extremely high there because it is like a small English market town surrounded by parkland, but only 15 mins from central London on the tube.'Never keep up with Joneses. Drag them down to your level. It's cheaper.' Quentin Crisp0 -
the problem with a bigger property is more maintenance of any kind attached to it whether paid help or doing it yourself.
I would say I could do with a better quality/location house but not gold taps chrome ones will do.0 -
I have plenty, like others I would like a room for each of my children preferably little self contained granny flats for them and a large garden with an orchard and hens and enough to keep us comfortable until we shuffle off the mortal coil, nothing more than that.
I love the idea of alms housesBlessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light
