I have a Mitac Mio 168 running windows 2003. It's been running fine. I mainly use it for TomTom. I recently purchased a wireless SD card so that I can take my PPC with me and use it in WIFI hotspots.
I have had some trouble configuring my PPC to connect to the internet. Even though it shows me that there are networks available it is connecting and then it stops connecting even though the networks are available.
So my first request for help is a definitive set up for me to use in configuring my PPC for wireless internet access to make sure it is up and running successfully.
My second bugbear is, my PPC keeps freezing, I have to hard reset it and reinstall everything from my TT to the drivers for the wireless card. It is really driving me potty. I have searched for help and advice over the internet, but with very little success, even joining a few forums committed to PPC users, but no joy. Although someone did suggest I needed to update the ROM in my PPC. Upon searching for this it seems my Mio 168 is using the latest firmware. there has to be a reason why it's freezing, but I'm stumped if I know what it is.
So help with the freezing is my second request.
When I was able to connect to the internet it was using my neighbours connection. I could have continued using it but I told her that I could get access using her connection therefore warning her to change her settings. So some good has come from me trying to access the net using my new wireless card
If I could only get my PPC up and running properly I'll be a happy bunny.

Hi, I have owned a Mio 168 since May 2005 along with various SDIO expansion cards. My WiFi card is a Sandisk WiFi+256MB card which works very well apart from streaming mp3 files which causes it to lock up the machine after about 15 to 30 mins. I think I read on the net that this has something to do with the implementation of SDIO on the Mio and cannot be fixed. The Sandisk model is considered to be the best on the market and also the only one with onboard storage, so you can install your web based software on it and preserve your precious Mio 168 RAM.
You didn't mention if you have entered any relevent WPA passkeys for the security side of things, i.e. to be able to connect with other networks that ask for a passkey. I find that occasionally my card loses this information and I have to re-enter it again and then soft reset the Mio 168. I never have to totally reinstall or do a hard reset though.
I would seriously recommend that you get hold of a good backup program like Sprite Backup, Spb Clone or Spb Backup. You can then image the whole Mio in just a few minutes and if something messes up your Mio, you can have everything back to normal in minutes.0
