5p for carrier bags

Here in Wales we've been without the plastic bag for the past four years, so we are well accustomed to using our own bags.
I use bags like these:

All the supermarkets do them, and the designs are nice. Asda have a cute sunflower on theirs. Waitrose give them away every so often to MyWaitrose card holders.
They cost a little more (£2.50 I think) but they last well - my oldest ones are coming up for 5 years old and are about ready to be replaced. They are strong, the handles are padded so they don't cut your circulation off in your fingers and my OH can easily manhandle the entire weekly shop into the house in one go using 5 of these. :T
I don't like the Bag for Life, because they are still plastic bags, which we really need to move away from. These jute ones are cute, gentle on your fingers and you can get loads in them. I've always got about 6 of them on the go and 5 fold up neatly into the 6th so they take up very little room in my boot.0 -

Thank you, I like the string ones for fruit and veg and they fold to nothing, so easy to always have a couple in your handbagWell Behaved women seldom make history

If moooldoon asked five pence tax for some charity to keep the poor poor, she will be off her seat putting things back on the shelf.
I have not had to use a shop back for a while, and any offish particulant stops me entering shop with my bag will see my knuckles, and I will not shop there again.0 -
I think it's a great idea , I've been using hessian type bags for years and they are still going strong :money:
No ripping and things poking through - win win0 -
Primark sell nylon bags in little holders for £1. Ideal for keeping in your handbag for unplanned trips to shops or unexpected bargains. If I had a penny for every time a customer in M&S said they had left their bags in the car boot because they had only popped in for one item!!!!0

I noticed the £ shop have carrier bags on a roll (quite strong ones) in packs of 40. I need them for my kitchen waste bin (specially designed for carrier bags).
I've not quite exhausted my stock of SM carriers yet but have these in mind for when I do. I might use them first for shopping and then reuse for bin.
Anyone seen carrier bags for cheaper than that?0 -
does anyone know of a pattern for making the jute type string bags, TIA
