Floor before kitchen fitting?

I'm having a new kitchen fitted and also having new flooring. The floor is going to be wood, but not sure whether to have the floor put down first and then the units fitted, or fit the floor around the units. My kitchen fitter said you can do it either way - he said he likes the floor down first which I do like the sound of, but not sure if it could cause problems later if we had, say, a water leak.
Any thoughts?

I always thought you fitted the units first, fitted the floor so it goes slightly under them and then fitted the plinth.
If you fit the floor first how will you take it up if you want to change it without taking the units out?0 -

On the flipside, what if you wanted to change the kitchen but not the floor!
My preference would be kitchen over floor, but I guess it depends on the floor quality and which is likely to outlast the other.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

But if you're just replacing the kitchen with the same layout the new units will cover the same floor space anyway won't they?
Ours is tiled and it only has tiles going just under the plinth, but I don't think we could keep them even if it was possible because they look different where they haven't been exposed to light and 30 years of dirt! I suppose wood is different because you can just sand it and re-treat it.0 -
My preference in a kitchen would be waterproof flooring first, and sealed so that water can't get under it. Then it's easy to mop up if there is a leak.
Even better is a floor drain if you can get one installed.A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.0
