Has my inheritance been taken

Hi all... Hope you can advise.
My grandmother died in March of this year. My estranged father and aunt were named as the executors. In the will I and my brothers were left a substantial amount of money.
Probate was granted in July and we still have not received anything. I have tried to contact the solicitor who helped my gran draw up her will, but he won't speak to me as I am not his client.

I have a very strained relationship with my father who will not share any details or even speak to me. My Aunt has said she has not received anything either.

My father (horrible man he is) was left my grans house and cash, and he had the house up for sale before probate was granted.

What I would like to know is, can my father steal our inheritance? I have received a copy of the willl but I don't know where to go from here. How long does it take, who will distribute the assets and can he take everything without my aunts signature?

Thank you

What does it say in the will that you will be receiving? Is it dependent on the house being sold?

Although probate was granted in July it can take a considerable time for everything to be sorted so in the grand scheme of things this is probably what is happening.

Since you are concerned about your father's intentions then you could write and ask for an update of your grandmother's affairs. if you receive no reply then a letter from a solicitor might get a better response.

If your aunt was the executor is she not dealing with your grandmother's affairs?
  • Hi... Thank for your advice.

The value of mine and my brothers inheritance is not dependant on the sale of the house.

My aunt (as far as I am aware) is simply waiting until instructed by the solicitor that the assets can be distributed. My concern is that my father has already taken control of the estate and taken everything. Can he do this or would my aunt need to co sign everything? If my aunts signature is required before the assets are distributed then I will wait, but if only one executors signature is required, then I fear he will have taken everything.

I hate this situation we are in... If I wrote to my father, he wouldn't reply, so I may take the solicitors letter route.

Thank you again for your advice.
