Yodel delivered to neighbour

Basically Yodel tracking says they delivered a parcel to my neighbour, I checked with my immediate neighbours and they don't have it. Contacted Yodel and they left it 2 doors down, checked and they don't have it. I've got no reason to not believe her, I don't think an elderly lady has much use for a toddler table set! I can't get hold of Yodel or the company I ordered from and I'm worried I've lost £50.

I think the item should have been signed for so I'll be interested to see whos signature it is. I've checked the company I purchased it from and although it mentions they're couriers may leave items with neighbours its not actually in their terms and conditions. I'm hoping I will just get a straightforward replacement but am I entitled to one and what should I say if I don't? I know some people didn't get refunds from ebay because the items were technically delivered.

I had similar with a catalogue company once and got an immediate replacement. Although it did help that the driver said he'd left my Hoover in a back porch that I haven't got.

The risk remains with them until you take possession of the goods.

Meaning its of no concern to you where they did deliver it, your request was for it to be delivered to address A and they have not. They may allow their couriers to deliver it to a safe place or a neighbour rather than pay redelivery costs, but that is their choice and they should not make you their insurer - especially for risks that are wholly within their control.

If they argue the point, just ask them if they would consider you paying a neighbour of theirs as you completing your side of the contract. I very much doubt they would.

If it was an eBay purchase just open an INR and see what happens. I doubt Yodel would have obtained a signature, they are more likely to have thrown it over a wall - any wall... :)

Yodel will only collect a signature if the sender has paid them for this extra service.

I imagine for a £50 item the seller may well've decided the extra cost wasn't worth it.
  • It was just a catalogue company. I did get another parcel through yodel but can't remember if I had to sign for it but I'd imagine if the parcel is tracked it should be signed for as well. Apparently yodel charge their drivers for missing items so I don't see how it benefits them to not deliver it correctly. It's a big parcel as well.

Tracked doesn't necessarily mean signed for.
I just had a parcel delivered by myhermes while I was out. The tracking information showed it moving from depot to driver to my porch where it was left.
