Double glazing - Fensa and GGFi

Earlier this year (April) I purchased new double glazing for my property.
The company I used were Fensa registered and I received my Fensa certificate shortly after the installation was complete, and the company returned to fix a couple of problems (leaking front door and broken handle). When I purchased the windows and new front door I was informed that I would have a 10year guarantee.
Just after they fixed the final problem the company went bust, while irritating at the time I wasn't worried as I thought I would be covered under Fensa...
Today in the post I received a letter from GGFi (guarantee protection) stating that as the company did not pay the premium the warranty insurance policy issues is cancelled and as the company is no longer trading it can't be reinstated.
Is GGFi the same as Fensa? Do I still have any cover for my windows? Where exactly do it stand if there are any more problems with the windows that haven been installed?

FENSA and GGFi are not the same.

You should have a FENSA certificate that confirms the installation conforms to Building Regulations.

It is The Glass and Glazing Federation that provide the insurance backed 10 year guarantee, and as your installer has not paid the premium they are saying you do not have that 10 year guarantee.

How did you pay for the windows? By credit card or some other form of credit?

It strikes me that you purchased goods and service which included a 10 year guarantee. As the installer has failed to provide part of that service, i.e. the guarantee, it is possible that you may be able to get your credit provider to correct that deficiency.

Have a read of MSE's Section 75 article for more detail.
  • Unfortunately I didn't pay with any type of credit although I am obviously regretting that now!
