Going out today to have a look at laptops/chromebooks for my mum, and was wondering if anyne had bought a refurbished one? and how they got on with it?
What does this mean exactly?
I have seen the exact same chromebook of mine for a great price £90.00 off and they are saying its either a display model or could have been returned under their 14 day return offer, but with no marks on it so you would never know. Even Debenhams are selling refurbished, so I was thinking - must be all right.
Won't be doing very much on it, internet browsing, and maybe put some photos on it. It may also get used by someone else for applying for jobs, completing applications, etc. Thats about the lot.

So was away shopping .... £139.95 HP 14-X020NA 14" 2 / 16GB SSD Chromebook NVIDIA Tegra K1 2.3GHz - Turquoise
quite basic, I think, but would do everything required.
Question is; How trustworthy are refurbished / display model / returned/changed mind item - are these chromebooks, its not what they do, its how reliable would they be? would it only last maybe a year or so then have to buy another, or is there no reason why they should not last as long as a brand new one ?
Do I just take my chances ? ThanksAlways have 00.00 at the end of your mortgage and one day it will all be 0's :dance:MF[STRIKE] March 2030[/STRIKE] Yes that does say 2030  Mortgage Free 21.12.18 _party_Now a Part Timer from 27.10.190 -
I have a refurb Toshiba laptop from Argos which has been going strong for several years now.All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -
You have DSR on your side and they offer a twelve month parts & labour guarantee. It seems fine.
Though not quite £90 off new, more like £40 look here
There is also a Windows 8.1 version at the same price: HP Stream Notebook - 14-z000na £139.99
If a customer returns a laptop for any reason, it cannot be resold as new, so often you can get a decent bargain this way.
I too am using my 'refurb' Toshiba, more than six years after purchase.
Not saying that your HP will be of a similar standard, but it should last just as long as a 'new' model.0 -
I bought a refurbished Toshiba Satellite laptop from Argos on eBay in August for £189 to replace my seven year old Acer laptop. It was a good machine but unfortunately, it wouldn't download Windows 10 despite trying nine times.
I returned it with no problems whatsoever, and purchased another Toshiba Satellite model which was a returned one, not a refurbished one. Just had a couple of marks on the lid.
This was a more powerful machine with 8Gb RAM and a one terabyte hard disk. This cost £239. It's a much better machine and downloaded Windows 10 with no problem whatsoever. It had never been registered with Toshiba, which the previous one had.
I'm very happy with it.

Hi,
they are described as refurbished, though most will not have been dismantled, maybe ex display, returns or slight cosmetic blemishes.
They will have been checked out and you will still get a years warranty.
When my trusty Samsung gives up the ghost, I'll be going refurbished.0 -

Hi NiftyDigits
the above info was most helpful, but too much choice confuses me:) as I am trying tying to buy for two different people, my mum and brother, and neither know what they want
My mums should be fairly basic like mine, so i'm thinking the chromebook, my brother want a higher spec laptop (I think, but his knowledge skills are basic) than his old very very slow acer that he must have bought around 10 years ago now
Nice to talk to someone who knows what they are talking about, any ideas, as i am buying two.Always have 00.00 at the end of your mortgage and one day it will all be 0's :dance:MF[STRIKE] March 2030[/STRIKE] Yes that does say 2030  Mortgage Free 21.12.18 _party_Now a Part Timer from 27.10.190 -
