Fence paint sprayer. Advice needed.

DH loves gadgets and has been wishing for one of those fence paint spraying thingies. I would like to surprise him with one in time for this coming Bank Holiday weekend. (No prizes for guessing my ulterior motive! :rotfl: :rotfl: )
If any of you have got one, or have seen one working, could you please tell me which one it is and whether or not it did a good job? Which one would you recommend? Argos have a Timbercare one on offer at the moment but it looks like a pump-action one. I think there are some electric ones available.
Please tell me which one I should get.
Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. Fool me three times and I'll smash your face in. :D

My experience with an electric sprayer i bought from Screwfix was absolute crap only fit for the bin. It just kept blocking up the nozzle. The problem is once you have tried it out its in no fit state to return for a refund only buy if recommended or you will have a useless ornament.:o

Had a B&Q pump up one and it was OK but sprung a leak after 6 months.

The new one works fine (So far)

Here's a tip if y ou get one dont use it on a fence that adjoins a neighbour. Our neighbour did, result i had a lot of orange plants and an orange pergola. Luckily he managed to avoid killing my very expensive large koi.

As you can tell i was less than pleased but it wasnt malicious he just didnt realise how much the paint can carry in the wind.

That said i have used one myself in the past on boundary fences not connected to a neighbour, for those i paint by hand every time, it saves any potential for arguments.

Completely right, alanobrian.Unless the fence is 100% gap free, and even with absolutely no wind, the spray will go straight through to your neighbours gardens. It happened to a friend of mine.
  • All my fences ajoin neighbours' gardens. After reading your replies I am having second thoughts about the paint sprayer. Thank you all for your advice.

Unless, of course, your neighbours ALSO have a sprayer, which they've already used to coat your kitchen windows with.

I quite fancy dyeing their cat green, then painting our fence....

We bought one, it kept getting clogged up. Was a complete waste of money & drove me insane!! The spray does seem to carry quite far, even on what appears a still day.

Hi folks a quick related question
I have already bought some B&Q timbercare and have a lot of new fences to treat. The tin makes no reference to spraying - only brushes
Does it matter? Can I spray ?
    Thanks in advance
  • Hi mdean you have bought the wrong stuff!!! I did the same thing the tubs from B+Q are identical but you have to check the label as the ones for the sprayer actually have thiner paint. I used the normal stuff by mistake and the nozzel clogged up!!! And yes there is loads of overspray so i paint the borders of the fence by hand then spray the middle. Better finish with the sprayer as i used it on my garden furniture, set up a little spray booth in my garage lol.

    Hope this helps
