London travel help(Oyster card)

i'm rarely in london these days, and last worked there when oyster cards were just coming in and before the ridiculous tube prices for paying in cash! can i just get one when i arrive into st pancras on saturday, and will it include young person's railcard discounts? i get the feeling from the website that it won't give a discount, and it may be better to get a zone 1 travelcard instead. i can't believe that i worked in london for 5 years and i now don't know how this system works! i've also just been on the (annoying) oyster website and can't seem to find a list of which stations can use it, because i'm not 100% sure that the stations i need to go to in zones 3 (for a later trip in september).... if anyone can find a website which lists that so i can stop banging my head against a wall, i'd be very very grateful! You can't use Oyster to buy a one day travel card as such. HOWEVER, you will never pay more in any one day than the cost of a one day travel card for the zones you use (if that makes sense!)... Best of both worlds... If your travel doesn't hit the travel card cost - you save money on not having bought one. If it goes over a travel card cost, they only charge you up to the cost of the card.:happyhear0

You can't get a young person's discount using oyster so you may well be better off with a paper ticket. Details about which national rail stations you can use oyster at are here:

Thanks for that it's very helpful. So if i'm reading it correctly as my kids are 10 and 6 they can travel free at any time on any transport from April this year?
So i could use our 2 adult oyster cards then for us 2 and they travel free anyway?Darren0

            Thanks littlemissmoney:)
Just another quick one then(a question;))
If i go via the oyster route we would have to go through the disabled/pushchair etc barrier and touch there as the kids would have to just pass through with us,is that right?Darren0

You'll probably have to ask the person by the gate to open it for you as most stations don't have disabled barriers that automatically open. Make sure you swipe your Oyster in *and* out though even if they open the gate for you else you will get charged the max fare. Proud to be a MoneySaver! Proud to be a MoneySaver! 0 0

I've just worked out online from the TFL website a single fare from Barking to Bond St is £2.50 so £5 return. The bus using the oyster card would be half price wouldn't it so £1 so that makes it £7 return for the bus and tube there and back?
That would be cheaper than getting the TC aswell.Darren0
