bathroom tiling

I appreciate the detail is sketchy but I'm after a rough idea since I haven't done it befure.
I have a normal adult size bath and shower over the bath. The wall on the 3 sides of the bath is tiled to the ceiling.
Floor is vinyl. The 4th side of the bath has a curve.
Rest of the walls are painted.
The length of the bathrooms has my bath end to end and I guess a similar or slightly smaller width.
I am looking to retile the existing tiles and remove the vinyl and put tiles on the floor and re paint the other walls.
I put an ad on my builder and got one response from a tiler who appears to be quite free but is a qualified tiler. He is coming to give a quote in a couple days.
But from the figures he mentioned he estimates material and labour to be £280 to £390. Does this sound dear or cheap? He can get tiles from his trade account from various tiling places. I would be after mid range.
Secondly is it worth putting jn a new shower? It's not a white unit. Just silver? Don't know what you call it? The temperature control is attached to a metal rod shape thing on the wall?
Thirdly no idea what tiles to go for in terms of colour. Just want quite clean and modern. Walls will be white. Thinking grey? Or look too dark or small in small bathroom? Lighter contrast on floor and matching darker contrast on wall area?
Fourthly what adhesive should he use that j should ask about and any other things I should ask him?
Thankd

My kitchen has tiled splash back on one wall and slightly over a second. The window sil area is tiled too.The tiles are a little tired and chipped in places.
I was considering getting this retiled and a new work surface put in. He said he couldn't do work surface as I need a carpenter.
1) I asked if I got work surface done later then would removal and installation cause damage to the tiles jn contact with existing surface. He said no if I used a hood carpenter. Is this correct or would there be inevitable damage?
2) my work surface is a dark grey marble effect...looks dirty abx tired but not damaged. Is there any chemical treatment I can use to bring it back to life and so avoid having to get a new one in?
3) my kitchen walls are very pale blue and I have a slightly darker large square tiles on the floor and dark grey work top. Current tiles are very very pale grey.im thinking changing to some small 'checked' blue tiles. Would this work? Thanks0
