    that's the one ! google omitted that link , 1.7 times faster than the original

    the best improvement was the understanding of "ramdrive" , once implemented that was "turbo power"

    DEVICE=RAMDRIVE.SYS [bbbb] [ssss] [dddd] [/A]
    Where:
    • bbbb is disk size in kilobytes. Default is 64 and minimum is 16, (or NVR to use NVR value).
    • ssss is the sector size. The values 128, 256, 512, and 1024 are allowed. Default is 128.
    • dddd is the number of root directory entries. The default is 64, the minimum value is 4 and the maximum is 1024.
    • /A indicates that an extended memory board which meets the LIM Expanded Memory Specification for a RAM drive is in use. If this switch is used, the /E switch cannot be used.

    Back in 1996 - I "turbo charged" my Pentium 1 75Mhz - by piggy-backing a 125Mhz Intel MMX "overdrive" processor on top of it - must be a similar method
    This upgrade cost £180 !!

    Ah the good old days of EMS & XMS and maximising the available memory below 512KB

    You wanna get one of those new-fangled 486s. "Turboing" your PC is as simple as pressing a button.

    Ironically, those turbo buttons actually reduced the clock speed to something comparable to an 8088, so that really old software that used the clock speed for timing things would still run ok. I have no idea how or why they ended up writing 'turbo' on a button that does that?

    As for free software to speed up a computer, it's a great way to speed things up when you're being slowed down by all that multitasking with smiley central and bonzi buddy :)

    Joking aside, don't install any of this stuff! Random free software, particularly the kind that can afford banner advertising or introduces itself via spam, and which never really explains how or why it's free is almost inevitably bad news.
