Broken Lever Latch - how to open door ?

We have a broken lever latch - but cannot open the door to remove the catch
Any suggestions ?
I have taken off both handles and 4 bits of metal fell out - that look as if the are designed to "square off the round hole" so the handle shaft fits - but when I try to refit them - they don't stay put !
(This is our inner front door)
Thanks

OK Managed to open the door - using a tiny screwdriver and have removed the offending latch - next question is
Are all latches the same size ?
B&Q appear to offer 43*104mm Yale ones at £4.84
How do I know whether this is the same size as my present one - how you measure them ?
It says HEIGHT 170mm - HEIGHT with a door latch ?0 -
If it looks like below measure the length of the piece that goes into the door, it should be 75mm or 3". that then is what you will need as the replacement

Thanks - I am even more confused now
B&Q sell single latches size 43 (L) * 104 (W) @ £4.84 or £5.93
Or multi packs size 43 (L) * 160 (W) @ £12.85
All Yale !!
The single latch says in its detailed view that it is 76mm long - so that appears OK ?

I can confirm that our existing one was 75mm long !
Which one should I buy ?0 -
This being an MS Site, do you need to be able to shut that door for certain? Draught exclusion, fire safety etc means yes of course, but if it's slightly more decorative than functional, it will push & pull shut but the handle need not rotate.
All the best!0 -

Personally I would take the damaged one to the shop and check it against their stock, most if not all in those places are in clear bubble packs so you should be able to offer it up to see that the length is correct. The one thing you need to confirm is that the square hole where the bar goes through is in the same position but if that is the same but the overall length is longer it would mean drilling out more into the depth of the door to take the extra length. If you have a Wickes near you I would think that the one in the link below is the one you want {you may also find that Wilko will have the same thing }
