Decorating with old tea chests

For years I have harboured a secret fantasy about facing off a kitchen wall with the sides of vintage (varnished) tea chests. Well here I am with an old cottage kitchen in need of total refurb (nothing to spoil but the woodchip ) and suddenly along come some tea chests. They would fit in perfectly with the planned quirky retro look.
But I need you to tell me, fellow forumnites, if I have finally lost the plot? I don't know anyone else who has done this.

Nice idea.
A local coffee shop has clad an internal wall with what looks like packing boxes (coffee/tea boxes?) or very rough n ready planks - it looks good. I would like to do it but not sure wife would agree!0 -
My OH had a great idea of decorating the attic staircase in our old house with movie posters in a collage effect. It looked really good, until it came to selling the house and I had to try and get it all off, which took about a week. Can't comment on whether the tea chest idea will look good, but my advice would be to think about how you do it, so that it can be undone if you need to.
The OH is the creative one, and I've always taken the view that whatever crazy ideas she comes up with, its about being happy in your own home, not what anyone else thinks.0 -
I suppose it could be easily undone if a little messy, as I assume they would fasten on the wall with battens. Plus I would just do the wall at the dining end so it wouldn't be overbearing.
But talking of the collage idea, I was admiring the decor in a coffee shop loo today. The wall was plastered with magazine as well as cartoon cut outs which looked like they had been varnished over. It was so interesting, I thought about asking to have my coffee in there
