No you cannot demand that.
You can still exercise your rights under the SOGA, but the retailer may ask you to get an independent report saying there was an inherent fault with the fridge, as it is over 6 months old. This will be at cost to you, BUT if the fridge is found inherently faulty the retailer must refund the report cost to you.
The retailer can then choose to either replace the fridge, repair it, or refund you. This can be a partial refund to take into account your 20 months of use. You can express a preference for one remedy over another, but you cannot demand it. The retailer holds the choice and will usually choose the one that costs them the least amount of money.0 -
Since it's over 6 months old, first you have to show that it had a latent fault when it was delivered to you. This would normally be by an independent inspection.
The store may be helpful and have it inspected themselves, or they may just be awkward.
Only then can you claim a refund, replacement or repair (and the cost of the report if you had to pay for one).If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.0 -

You can demand whatever you like, however a repair is the most likely first option as it is effectively down to the retailer to choose the remedy. They could also offer a partial refund before a replacement.
Whether you get any of the above or not depends on (most likely) you proving the fault is inherent. What has the retailer said?0 -
The company I'm dealing with is Appliances Online if I'm allowed to mention that !
The first thing they suggested two days ago was to take up some repair scheme to lower costs of payment, I informed them I'm using sales of goods act 79 , yesterday they told me the sales of goods act had changed and I couldn't pursue it through that route, which of course I can because I bought the fridge freezer in January 2014.
In the end I ended up talking to a manager and he said he might be able to get a reduction for the repair but he's going to talk to the manufacturer first.
I thought though although yes beyond 6 months it's down to me it was not fit for purpose when I purchased it, that because I've only had it 20 months that's an unreasonable amount of time for it to only last for ?!
Thanks for replying .0 -
Unreasonable is unknown until the proof of the fault .0

Have you checked the manufacturer's warranty? Many manufacturer's now offer a 2 year warranty rather than one year.
Under SOGA you have no right to a replacement whatsoever, as above. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
Fridge freezer not working after 20 months
Why is it "not working"? What exactly is wrong with it?
It might just need something as simple as a new thermostat. Have you checked the fuse?0 -
The Freezer is working but not the fridge and I'm suspecting it's a build up of ice but not being an expert I can't be certain, so anyway AO/Indesit are going to repair it free of charge and rightly so, it's only 20 months old, it's unreasonable regardless of the fault because a fridge freezer should last 7-10 years according to a survey carried out by " Which? " which they asked a lot of manufacturers, I also found that other Indesit models have had this problem too.0

So you use the fridge freeze in the garage which it says not to do in the manual, and it so develops a fault because the temperature difference isn't enough and thats unreasonable?
You spill something, you install it incorrectly, you damage it by X Y Z and think that's unreasonable?
No, a inherent fault would allow for redress under the law. What a magazine says means nothing, nor about the hundred or few hundred of people who post online about their issues.
Sorry but you're wrong. You got a goodwill gesture, good stuff, but don't confuse goodwill with getting a legal redress.0 -

Well done that you've got them to repair it though.0
