This question is for a vibrating engine, making a rattling noise.

It has been confirmed that the 2 mounts have wear and tear, and are causing it to rattle.

If this is left and unfixed, what is the worse case scenario that can actually happen to the the engine? , can parts get damaged with the vibration caused by driving ??

1) If these mounts are left, without seeing them for months, will the engine and engine
parts get more severely worn out? or not really?
(assuming alot of driving is done, on alot of long distances)

- What is the worse case scenario ?

2) What price range should be expected to be paid the replacement /fixing of 2 mounts?

3) and also the price of labour to fit it?

4) How many hours a job is it for the replacement of them ?

(This is for the 2 engine mounts, one under the engine, and one at the top of the engine)

For a Peugeot 406

If the mounts break, the engine can fall out. This generally brings you to a halt as the driveshafts are at a crazy angle and it won't go. (Yes, I thought the mounts were made so as to catch the engine if they break, but that sort of thinking was in The Olden Days)

Meanwhile the extra movement can fracture exhaust pipes and wires, as well as minor pipes like fuel oil & vacuum lines.

If they are bad enough for you to notice when driving, they want changing.
No idea how much, I wouldn't dream of letting a garage touch any part of my car.
I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

(except air quality and Medical Science ;))

Top mount'll be straightforward. Lower mount'll be the one making a bigger difference, and is likely to be a bit more involved - but probably not a MASSIVE job.

Apart from the noise, you may well find that various parts attaching the engine to the rest of the car - coolant hoses, exhaust, wiring - are under more strain, and will fail.

I dont know if this is any help but the engine mount went on my peugeot 106 with the 1.5 diesel ..one garage thought it was the bottom one so they changed that cost about £90 it wasnt the right one ..took it to another they changed the top mount which fixed it cost £120
these figures included the labour but cant remember what the labour cost was and it was probably 3 years ago or so maybe

In both cases the part was delivered to the garages within the hour so in my case I guess the part was readily available
give your local peugeot garage parts department a ring..might also be worth giving your local motor factors a ring too see if its available from them cheaper..just a thought
