Successfully reclaimed bank charges from Lloyds Bank!

I just wanted to let other members know that you can still be successful in reclaiming bank charges but, I suspect, only if you are in financial difficulty like I have been. (In 2011, I separated from my husband who went bankrupt and I have been struggling financially as a single mum.) Thanks to the MSE guidance on here, I sent off an initial letter to my local Lloyds branch on Monday with a breakdown of charges including interest (thanks to the interest calculator on this site) totaling £1499. I was expecting a response from them in a week or so but I got home to find a message from Lloyds Bank on my answerphone. Tentatively, I phoned back. The lady offered to settle my claim for £1150 which I accepted. I haven't had to close my account, just agree not to have an overdraft from now on, and I have also still kept my cheque book and debit card. The refunded charges are due to appear in my account tomorrow (yay!). They received the letter on Tuesday and I will have the money tomorrow (Friday) - just 4 days! So if you are struggling financially then do try writing to them. Give them as much information as you can (she said my letter was detailed which helped). Thank you, thank you, thank you MSE - I am thrilled to have been given this chance to turn my situation around.

That is correct. Financial hardship or incorrect application of charges are the only two areas that have been getting refunds.I sent off an initial letter to my local Lloyds branch on Monday with a breakdown of charges including interest (thanks to the interest calculator on this site) totaling £1499.
For the benefit of others, there is no requirement for you to work out the charges. The bank will look at the extent of your hardship and decide what it is going to refund from there. It could be a future charges suspended for x months or refund of last 6 months or refund of last x years. They decide and they know what you have been charged.
Nice result for you. Can see you are happy with that.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only.
