Have a look at Degiro (this is my first post, not sure if I can post links). They have a very little comission to trade (£1.75) per trade for UK shares, US shares even cheaper. Also, no inactivity fees etc.
They are 'the shorting one' that people are referring to, with no protection scheme in place (not even the Dutch version).0 -
I have used Degiro to pick up some US shares. So far I'm happy with the service. Be nice to have share certificates but beats paying £30 a trade over at computershare..0

Have a look at Halifax.
£2.00 to buy on a monthly basis and you can change/stop/change shares /amount at any time
Sometimes only £3 to sell also.
Have used for years.
Also offer reinvest dividends for free0
