Successful reclaim of PPI however ....

My PPI claim against Santander was successful, however the money awarded was used to pay off what I owe on my credit card.

In the letter it stated that I can claim some of this money back if I am in financial difficulties, which I am.

They have sent me an income/expenditure form for me to complete and that I will also need send proof of income, ie payslips etc.

I'm a full time student so don't have monthly payslips. I've phoned them up and they said that's ok, just send what I have.

I'm concerned they may want me to send bank statements which I'm not happy to send them. Do I have to send these in if asked?

if you are in arrears, defaulted and had amounts written off then they are allowed to offset the capital part of the refund against the debt. You should get the interest part to you.

You can refuse. However, so can they. It is normal under hardship claims for the bank to examine statements to make sure that you are in genuine hardship and not just spending too much on consumer goods. They look at the statements for things like sky tv, where you shop, where you eat, how much you spend on mobile phone etc.

If you dont send them then it looks like you are trying to hide something and you make it very easy for them to reject your hardship claim.
