  • I'd hand it over to your insurer. Someone runs into the back of you, it's their fault, end of ( unless you were doing something silly like having no lights on at night, in which case they may try and argue it ).

"Another company taking over the case" ? Forget that, scumbag ambulance chasers. I'm honestly surprised that any reputable insurer would even suggest that.

If it really is, as you say, a simple case of someone running into the back of you ( when I say "you" I mean your offspring ! ), then it's an open & shut case - let your insurance deal with it, you're not to blame. And judging from your post-count, you're not some new-comer troll, so I'm inclined to believe what you're telling us :)

    I'd ignore this advice personally.

Engage with the other guy's insurance company first. Either way you go they'll say the same thing, so why should your child have to stump up their excess, and have their NCB affected while it goes on until it's closed (makes it difficult if they're close to renewal date and the claim drags on). Also if you go through your own insurance, sometimes they restrict you to where you can get the car repaired.

And alot of insurance companies farm their fully comp clients over to accident management companies as standard practice now anyways.
  • Personally, I'd go through this link:

Punch in the third party details and pay £4 for details of their insurance company. Then contact the insurance company. Hopefully, their client will have notified them of the accident. Most insurance companies have dedicated third party capture teams which will bend over backwards to ensure that your vehicle is repaired at no expense to yourself, you have a hire car and also any relatively straight forward personal injury claims are also dealt with. This is preferable to the third party insurer rather than you going to a claims management company as it keeps costs lower. It would be preferable to you too as you won't have to worry about paying your own excess.
