PPI L&G "bundled" with mortgage

Hey everyone.

I've been trying to contact Legal and General who I had a PPI policy with when I took out my mortgage, I don't have any details about it now and they're claiming they don't either.

When I took out my mortgage my mortgage advisor told me I must have PPI as the lender (Future Mortgages) require it. The mortgage advisor I believe is no longer in business.

About 1-2 years after taking out my mortgage in 2008, I realised I was able to find an alternative supplier so I cancelled the L&G product and started a new one.

I also had critical illness cover with L&G. In total I think I was paying over £120 a month.

Do I have a claim? Since L&G are saying they cannot find me does that mean I have to go through the ombudsman?

Which works against you as you appear to have no complaint reason.

CIC is not PPI. Did you actually have PPI?
    Do I have a claim

Nothing you have said indicates any reason for complaint. Many mortgage brokers require you to purchase insurance via them to get the free mortgage advice. Its a common model and allowed. The insurance just needs to be suitable. You appear to want it so its hard to see what your complaint is.

The FOS have no remit. L&G are just the product provider. Not the seller. The FSCS would be the one to use. However, you really need to look at the detail as the FSCS uphold rate on mortgage advisers is just 5%. It would also only cover the period in payment and only the bit of the premium relative to the PPI (not life or CIC).
