Breakdown cover with caravan

Options
We have a caravan which we tow a few times a year. What is best breakdown cover to get?

  • No idea what is the "best", but the AA have recovered my car + a trailer I was towing that was as big and heavy as a caravan (because it had a racing car on it) a few times. It is unfortunate when my tow vehicle breaks down bringing the working competition car home!

Most breakdown companies will cover the towing vehicle breaking down as long as the trailer is within certain size and weight limits.

If you want the caravan/trailer covered then consider the Caravan Club/Green Flag Mayday scheme or the Camping and Caravan Club/RAC Arrival scheme.

Both of these will recover the caravan if something mechanical happens. They will also take you to your holiday destination and then home again is the car cannot be fixed.

I have the Arrival package and its worth the peace of mind.

We second Green Flag through Caravan Club.
I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.

Most breakdown organisations wouldn't help if your caravan was left on site after the car broke down on a day out. or had to be returned to storage, you dropped home and the car to a garage. that's why I use mayday (caravan club)
