Having a woodburner fitted

Options
I'm having a woodburner fitted to my cottage.

I'm having it installed in the lounge, with the insulated flue straight up the inside of the wall and out through the roof. The walls are plasterboard so are having to be covered in a heat resistant material behind the flue. There is no fireplace or chimney in place.

I've been quoted £980 plus the price of the woodburner, which includes the cost of all the material except the fire and hearth, which I am happy with.

It's being done by a local company.

Does that price sound ok?

    are they HETAS registered?
How long is the Flue? twin wall insulated is well over £100 per metre. I'm looking at a very short flue or a very low labour cost which rings alarm bells in my head.
Google stovesonline and roughly price up the cost of materials.

The price is amazing as long as (as pointed out by tonyh66) they are HETAS registered.

Mine cost £850 including hearth, excluding burner but the existing chimney flue was deemed suitable so didn't require re-lining with twin wall flue. I would imagine with a liner, I'd be looking at around £1200 - £1500.
  • I have had the job done today, and am very pleased with it.

The company is HETAS registered and has issued a certificate to me on completion.

It is a one man band who used to work full time as a fitter but is now a full time fireman and he does this as a sideline. He has also supplied a carbon monoxide alarm, and has promised to come back next week with a couple of 10 year battery equipped smoke alarms.

He employed a professional company to do the roof work.

Price as quoted - £980 plus the cost of the Montford woodburner itself.

Total cost for my woodburner is just under £2k. This includes everything, i.e. removing existing fireplace, replastering, new slate hearth, fire, flue, carbon monoxide detector etc.
