Charges for PPI. Please help.

Options
I was recently contacted by a PPI company (cold call to my phone) called Consumer Claim line. I am in a debt management plan so no other company would deal with me as any payments would come off the debts instead of to the company and me.

Consumer Claim line said they operated a no win no fee scheme so I agreed for them to look into PPI on my behalf. I received a letter today (dated 29th September) stating that one of the companies they had approached (Nationwide) I had already approached previously and received nothing from them. I have no knowledge of this. The letter I received today from Consumer Claim line stated that due to this they have sent me an invoice for £180 as a charge for there services? I called them and ended up arguing with them. They initially said this charge could be reduced to £72if I paid it within 7 days before we started arguing.

I also received another letter from them stating that another company they had approached (Dorothy Perkins) would not be paying me anything. Consumer Line have now sent me a letter to complete to send to the financial ombudsman to try and obtain any moneys owed instead.

I don't know whether to complete this form or just ignore it as I have had enough of Consumer Claim line.

Can anyone offer me some advice as I don't know what to do?

  • Send an e-mail to info@consumerclaimline.co.uk with a copy to consumer@claimsregulation.gov.uk

Head your e-mail COMPLAINT OF MISSELLING AGAINST CONSUMER CLAIMLINE

Tell them that you wish to complain that they made a cold call to you and persuaded to allow them to pursue a complaint without making clear that they would charge for their services but that, because you are in a debt management plan you were unlikely to receive any money with which to make those charges in the event of a complaint.

Demand that they confirm in writing that they will now cancel the contract and waive all charges.

If they fail to do so, go to the Legal Ombudsman.

If you think you have a valid complaint against Dorothy Perkins, there is nothing to stop you going to the Financial Ombudsman Service yourself.

If so, make sure you tell Dorothy Perkins you have withdrawn authority for them to communicate with Consumer Claim Line and use a fresh FOS form which does not give authority to Consumer Claim Line.
  • After they cold called me they sent me a letter which I signed giving them authority to look into Accounts I may have paid PPI on my behalf. Should I still send the emails as you requested in your reply above?

This is simply a blatant try-on from a bunch of con artists. Do as Magpie suggests.
