My old laptop (COMPAQ CQ60-420SA) seems slow compared to my smartphone , would I really notice much difference with a new one. The speakers (altec lansing) on it are really good too and i'm a bit worried that i'd lose sound quality as I play a lot of music on it and new laptops ive looked at like acer, lenovo don't seem to mention much about speaker quality (brand etc) in their specs.

My son's new HP laptop has Beats Audio (whatever that is) but he says its great sound."There are not enough superlatives in the English language to describe a 'Princess Coronation' locomotive in full cry. We shall never see their like again". O S Nock0

No laptop will have great sound quality. There isn't the room for decent speakers. For better sound with any laptop use headphones or separate speakers.0

Definitely back up your data and run a clean install without any bundled software. Laptop will still be good enough with those specs. If you want to make it more responsive than your Smartphone/Tablet., spend £35 upwards on an SSD drive.
I've sent you the latest firmware update for the laptop, along with instructions.0 -

The op and others are clearly happy with their built-in laptop speaker sound, as am I. Some laptops come with a subwoofer, which makes a lot of difference.0
