Washing Machine: Pumping water/not spinning HELP!

Hi!!
I have a Hoover H110M Timesaver Washing Machine nearly 6 years old now. I bought it from Bargaincrazy for around £160 so very pleased that it has lasted this long :j
We've had a few issues with it but have never had to call out an engineer as dh has always managed to sort them out. However, last week I put in a totally wet bath mat for a wash (18mth old sprayed water from the shower all over the bathroom floor  ) which was still wet after the last spin. I put it in for a further two more spins but it still came out soaking wet. Not sure of what had happened I then put in another load. The machine seemed to have come on but an hour later when I went to check the clothes were semi dry and the gel tablet was still whole. I have then tried putting the machine on a further three times. It seems that the water is pumping and draining but the drum isn't spinning.
I have spent the last two days researching new washing machines and Im so tired! I have read most of washer help's reviews (:T ) as well as some good advice from ukwhitegoods. I have a John Lewis washing machine ordered but I have a nagging feeling that my Hoover can be fixed. So can anyone tell me where to start? I was thinking of asking Dh to check the drain first....?
Please help, I have 3 kids so you can imagine the amount of washing!!
And now I know not to put in a soaking bath mat in the washing machine - it was really heavy, poor drum!!!

check for a blockage first. me and my old indesit washer were on 1st name terms i had it apart that often!!
Uk white goods is the best place to get advice on you washer, used them loads.0 -
I had a similar problem. It was caused by the carbon brushes that had worn down. I think they transfer the power to the drum. Cost was about £55 to fix (parts and labour).0

this has got nothing to do with this topic...but year's ago when I traded my old twin tub for an automatic...would never dream of going back...I got a penny stuck in the draining pipe...and as soon as the water went in the pennie turned and the water flooded back out...cost me £25 to remove the penny...but it also stopped the function of the washer as it knew something else was wrong...I would check everything out first see if you have a blockage does it have one of those little square's at the bottom of the washer back or front that needs cleaning out...give the draw a clean out...try to do a hot wash on empty see if that works...hth's...:D

have you checked to see whether the belt is still on at the back of the drum. A heavy load like that could kick the drum out of alignment and shake the belt loose. Or worse. But you'd kick yourself if you bought a new machine for the sake of a £20 ish belt.
Worth a look before you buy a new one?Official DFW Nerd Club - Member no. 002 :rotfl:0 -
Hi BB,
Most of the common ones have been covered above, the only other things possible are the motor itself and the control module pretty much and, either of those would have condemned it on price anyways.

Do you mean the drum does not turn at all, or just not spin?
Not spinning, can be related to the motor bushes - which is a cheap repair.
A thing which prevented our Hoover from moving to the spin cycle was a blocked/gunked up fill sensor. This is a small plastic cylinder on the back/bottom of the drum connected via a rubber tube, and needs to be flushed out periodically0 -
saw 1 at currys at £189 quid if that's any help...I had my hoover for 15 year's before it gave up the ghost...never had anything wrong with it...until one day got a quote and decided to just go for it and buy a new one as the guy said it would expensive as the parts would be out of date...got a silver hotpoint washer/dryer for £255 at kitchenscience not bad had it for 2 years now and so far so good...it might be that if it's gonna be over £100 to fix just get a new one...:D

Hi,
probably too late but,
as you are the one who usually empties the machine, give the drum a spin, as you would do when looking for a lost sock, you should feel some resistance, if the drum turns freely, then the belt has been flung off as suggested before, and can be easily replaced.0 -
Thank you all and apologies for not replying sooner.
Dh checked for any blockages but found none. He spoke to our old neighbour (a washing machine repair man) who said it would be expensive to repair (either in labour costs and/or part costs) so best to buy a new one. I'm chuffed that it lasted this long but now fed up as can't make up my mind on which new one to get.0
