Had an heating engineer recommend Ideal boilers to us this last week (and another recommended Baxi) but after doing a bit if digging and discussions with a family member who is a chartered engineer they said avoid both makes as they're not highly rated/reviewed. We're getting a 29kW Worcester Bosch with flue and Nest thermostat for £1,300. Take the cost of Nest of that and that's pretty much the same cost as the Ideal they've quoted you.

We have a 4-bed 2 bathroom property (only 2 of us though) and we've performed our own heat loss calculations and worked out that a 29kW would be adequate. We currently have a 15kW thermal store boiler (Powermax 155) and it's worked fine (until now) with 2 showers!

Edit: I understand some on here do not rate WB for whatever reason; A third heating engineer said he didn't either and would rather install Vaillant. But I can't ignore a recommendation from a family member with three engineering degrees! He usually knows what he's talking about..

Good luck with your choice, it's so hard to work out what to purchase. We did so much research my head was spinning by the end of it. Funnily enough three Worcester accredited engineers suggested Ideal Vogue for us, mind you the ten year parts and labour guarantee helped us make up our mind as well. Vogue is made from metal parts inside and not plastic apparently, that was also a big pull, that and parts are readily available with good back up service apparently.

One thing we were really worried about was finding a combi that could handle a four bedroomed, two bathroomed house and provide enough hot water flow to enable multiple water demands at the same time. Mind you we were told the size of a combi depends on the mains flow rate of the cold water feed. No point in putting in a huge flow rate boiler if you don't have the pressure apparently, which makes total sense. After a trial in our house we found that we can flush two toilets and someone can still take a shower without the temperature or flow of the water dropping to a noticeable amount. Or run two showers and chuck in a hot water tap, we can notice a flow drop then but it isn't anything to worry about. No longer do we get frozen or boiled so it's a real treat to have such a great boiler after 21 years of freezings when demand for hot water increases. Our last boiler had a much smaller flow and boy did we suffer if someone even turned the tap on for a few seconds let alone flushed a toilet. Ritual in our house used to be shouting down to let everyone know when anybody wanted to take a shower. Then lots of shouting if someone accidentally turned on a tap when you were taking a shower, heavens forbid if they flushed a toilet.

We looked at the nest and after researching turned that down. Having said that, we didn't want the option to control our house by an app. For us radiator thermostats in each room and a main temp and time controller are more than enough.
