Apple iPhone Warranty period - ebay

Hi all,

Quick question really. I bought an iPhone 6 off ebay for a decent price. The seller has a 'shop', but I'm not quite sure if you would class him as a retailer, and I wouldn't trust him being around for many years.

The Apple 1 year warranty will run out in September 2016, as per the information provided on their website with the serial number. But I was wondering, considering as its has an unremovable battery, should there be a longer lasting Warranty, either with the manufacturer or the retailer.

The reason why I'm asking, is if I get better protection by buying from a proper retailer who I know will be around, then I might send this one back and buy from a shop and have a longer warranty.

Warranty as long as the manufacturer chooses and to whatever terms and conditions .

Rights as a purchaser under the Sale of Goods Act has a time limit of six years to initiate a claim .Thats a claim not a six year guarantee .

Apple warranty is i believe 12 months if bought from a legitimate retailer of Apple products .

You would only get a 12 month warranty if you bought directly from apple. They do however give you the option of purchasing AppleCare which is aroun £70 for 3 years and covers your apple products.

Tbh, I'm not sure why you're worried about a battery; I've had iPhones since the start and have never had to take a phone back because of a battery fault, and I don't know anyone else who has either. It has always been 12 months warranty from apple/apple approved retailers, and that won't change any time soon.

Not sure what you're looking for, but I think you might want to take out phone insurance rather than a warranty.

That is only applicable if the seller is a business.

If buying from a private individual, then that right does not exist.

As above and what happens to your rights if the seller shuts down two years later .

Certainly not a price range i would be looking to buy from unknown sources .

I would have thought that you have greater rights under the SoGA as if the battery went kaput 1 day after the 12 month Warranty is up, you could claim that the premium product is expected to work reasonably for more than 12 months, more like at least 2 years seeing as its so expensive. That's kind of following the SAD FART rules as shown on this website.

Do you reckon if it was from a decent retailer or Apple themselves that you could exercise the SAD FART rules, say if the battery was performing poorly after having it for 16 months, seeing as it is such an expensive product?

I usually do have problems with batteries on phones, I don't know why I'm not a massive user!

I have only last week collected my MacBook Pro which developed a fault at 38 months. It was purchased from Apple Online store. I took it in to the local Apple Store with the intention of paying the £100ish it would be to repair (hard drive and cable), but I was delighted when they told me they would cover the repair.

Battery's are consumable and life depends upon usage .
