I am on SSP at the moment and I am really worried about how I am going to get by while on it, do you know if there are any benefits that can be claimed while on SSP

    What are your circumstances?

Single or couple or living with parents? Renting or paying mortgage?

    Partner working? Children?

You cannot claim ESA while also claiming SSP.

Is your illness likely to be long-term, and does it cause you difficulties getting around or washing/cleaning yourself or cooking?
If you can't do these half as fast as a normal person, or safely/reliably/... - and this is expected to last over the long term (a year) - then you may be able to claim PIP.

How many hours does your contract specify?

You need to be working 30 hrs a week to claim working tax credits.

If you are eligible for WTC then you can still claim this whilst on SSP.

The short term solution is to make a claim for Income Support and add your partner to your claim. The SSP will be deducted from your 'applicable amount' of Income support but an award of the Income Support will give you an automatic entitlement to HB and CT support. You can apply for the HB and CT support from your local council.

Google for the number to apply for Income Support.

As a couple with no children you would be eligible for the one bedroomed rate of HB but if you could afford the rent when you took on the tenancy and haven't claimed HB in the last 52 weeks then you will be entitled to your full rent for 13 weeks. This is called the 13 week protection rule and you should ask about it at the council.
  • Thanks for your help, pmlindyloo my contract say 4 hours, but I have been getting WTC since started at KFC, i hace applied for HB & CTS, I will look into Income Support
